Uses
A profile on a conveyor belt refers to a textured surface on the top or bottom of the belt. The different types of cover impressions impacts the way the belt interacts with the product, the conveyor system, or both. Many surface textures are described as having either a positive or negative profile. A positive profile protrudes upward from the surface, while a negative profile recedes into the surface. Generally speaking, if a product rides on top of the profile or impression, it is considered negative. A positive profile is more likely to interact with the product.
A positive profile is generally selected for additional grip of the conveyed product. However, this concentrated point of contact may accelerate the wear, diminishing the benefits of the profile over time. A negative profile reduces the amount of grip, which can be better for product release or sliding. Profile may also be used to reduce friction on the drive pulley.

Profile On-Demand
Mol Belting has the capability of adding custom profiles to the top or bottom cover of many of our PVC and Polyurethane belts. Standard products can be resurfaced with one of ten profiles to change the surface characteristics of a belt, which can fine-tune the release characteristics. Mol Belting is able to run production widths up to 60" with no minimum lengths. See below for details on the types of profiles available.
