Positive and Negative Impressions
A profile on a conveyor belt refers to a textured surface on the top or bottom of the belt. The different types of cover impressions impacts the way the belt interacts with the product, the conveyor system, or both. Many surface textures are described as having either a positive or negative profile. A positive profile protrudes upward from the surface, while a negative profile recedes into the surface. Generally speaking, if a product rides above the profile or impression it is considered a negative pattern. A positive profile is more likely to interact with the product.
A positive profile is generally selected for additional grip of the conveyed product. A negative profile can reduce the amount of grip, which can be better for product release or sliding. Adding a profile to the bottom of a belt may also reduce friction on the drive pulley.
Mol Belting Systems offers ten different profile patterns as an on-demand value add for applicable belts. This provides more customization without the need for annual volume minimums.
