A conveyor belt that is squared properly will have your operations running smoothly. A belt that is not squared correctly can lead to issues such as loss of production time. To ensure that a belt is cut square follow the guidelines below:
- Start with an edge of the belt that is straight
- Measure and mark the width of the belt at both ends and snap a chalk line between the two marks
- Mark off length of belt on side “A” of belt (see figure below)
- Measure diagonal “C” in both directions
- Measure sides to verify that “D”=“A” and “B”=”E”
- If both diagonals are equal, then the belt is square
Once you have verified that the diagonal, length and width dimensions match on each side, mark your lines and cut the belt. Your belt should now be square and you will now be able to run smoothly. If you are still having trouble with your belt tracking, please refer to the Belt Tracking article or contact moc.gnitleblom@selas.
